Week 5

Font:
This week was spent getting the typeface finished and into Fontographer. at first, I did have some trouble getting my letters in there and looking clean but I later found out that I was a simple fix, and all I needed to do was adjust my stroke. I don't know why the stroke was coming into the program so large but it was throwing off all my letters, and essentially making them look like big black blobs. but after adjusting the strokes down to 6 and setting the fill to none everything looked okay and like it was in illustrator.

Sugar Bowl :
The next exercise of the week was redesigning the sugar bowl website. I didn't realize how horrible the website was until this class. so my partner Brynna and I set out to revamp the website. We knew right away that we wanted a big header and that we wanted to take away all the unnecessary stuff. What most people didn't know was that the website was just one page and had a nav bar simply to link within that one page. So Brynna and I took that nav bar out completely and gave everything a more natural flow.

Week 4

This week we went over finishing out typeface in illustrator. Wich was more time consuming than expected. After finishing the typeface we had to do an exercise where we printed it out and then compared everything as a whole. we also got to look at some of the work our peers did. this also involved critiquing their work and then having mine looked at in the eyes of others. this was really interesting since I could now get feedback from others. overall I didn't receive too many comments but the most notable one was to watch some of my x-heights.
The second assignment of this week was another coding exercise. This was a way more intensive coding exercise allowing for adding content and different formatting. I will say that this one gave way more instructions than the other one and I learned so many new things, for example, the <strong> tag. I didn't know it existed and after using it, I will be using it more in the future.

Week 3

This week we spent some time coding and following an exercise which was geared to help us learn the basics. It was rather easy but did lack some instructions. the coding overall was easy and I was able to do it without any problems. one of the most interesting things I found about this assignment was the fact that they wanted divs to be added but they didn't say where or they didn't give any specifications.  my code overall looked okay but I still don't know if I did it correctly.

Week Two

This week was all about mapping out a font and starting to work on the ideation of making a font. First was the development of ideas, I had to think through some of the ideas that I had. First I decided to make a list of some of the things that I enjoyed.
List of Ideas
  1. Cats
  2. Cacti
  3. Desserts
  4. Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
  5. Cookies
  6. Monsters
Once I made this list the next task was to narrow in on three of those choices and begin developing them into letters.
Cacti-  The reason I decided to go with a design of cacti for one of my top three is that I love plants, especially succulents. I find myself constantly shopping for them and looking around for new ones all the time.

Desserts- The second one I decided to develop is desserts. Now anyone that knows me knows I have a passion for baking. I'm always making something new and having all my friends try it out.

Fresh Prince- Now I have an obsession with the 90's and anything that had to do with graffiti. So it makes perfect sense that I decided to go with the fresh prince as one of my fonts.

After drawing out those three options I decided to go with desserts. The main reason I went with desserts is to have a more individual font that had a bunch of different textures. I was thinking about all the colors and all the different deserts I could design. Now immediately while drawing this out I found a problem. If this was going to be in black and white how would I show all the different tones and variations in the letters?  So After talking to professor Mata, I scratched this idea.

I then fell back on my cacti idea and I'm not sure how I'm feeling about it. I decided to go with a more organic shape to show the different bends and curves the plant can have naturally, but at this point, im just afraid my font looks like a bunch of pickles.

On Campus Event at Elc

For my on-campus event, I decided to go to the closing reception in the elcm of Zach Shaffer's The Fountain. This was a Talk that was di...
